Massimo Tevarotto – An eco-friendly brand in tune with tradition

January 25, 2012

Massimo Tevarotto accomplished his studies at the Jewellery School of Valenzia Po where he trained as a goldsmith. He worked for the best jewellery houses, from Tiffany & co., to Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels as well as collaborating with the likes of Versace, Hugo Boss, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli.

The brand Massimo Tevarotto was developed later on with the goal to safeguard the environment through the use of waste materials.  The designer creates handbags made with fish nets that are dyed and then woven once again as well as with industrial discharges of paper and textiles. Although, raw materials come from faraway lands. Indeed, alongside the environment, Massimo is concerned about the state of things in poorer countries.

For instance, he’s planning to use his business to establish a school of arts and crafts in Brazil in order to protect and support the culture and traditions of the local communities whom he already involves in the creation process of all his pieces. Hence, Massimo Tevarotto creations follow a unique supply chain. The designer flies to São Paulo in Brazil where he purchases discharges of Lycra, jersey and taffeta. The he travels 2000 km north to create the handbags prototype with indigenous women. The materials are then sent to Italy, to the Riviera del Brenta in Veneto where, together with skilled artisans, the designer develops his creations. Adding further value to Tevarotto accessories is the fact that each and every one of them is rigorously hand-made.

Alongside the original handbags, Massimo Tevarotto designs belts, T-shirts and, needless to say, jewellery. The brand’s reference markets are mostly the US, Canada and Central America. In Italy Massimo Tevarotto is part of the C.L.A.S.S. network.

Audrey Hepburn made it iconic in the 1961 movie ‘Breakfast At Tiffany’s’.

Simple style and short design is the main characteristic of this dress.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 16, 2012

Today, marks the occasion of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday that honors the birth of a great community-minded and civil rights leader.

The holiday recognizes the great achievements of Martin Luther King. His leadership in the campaign to achieve equal rights for black Americans changed America forever. His focus on non-violent protests led to new laws that ended racial discrimination in America.

Dr. King was assassinated in 1968. Just 25 years later, in 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed this holiday into U.S. law. People first observed the holiday three years later, in 1986. The holiday is only one of four national holidays in America to commemorate a person. This shows just how important Martin Luther King was – one of the greatest Americans ever.

“Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve.” ~Martin Luther King Jr.
